Kracie Popin' Cookin' - DIY sushi set

Hello, everyone! After a long break, WunoRei's team is coming back with something new. This time we are focusing on famous Kracie DIY sets called Popin Cookin so be prepared for some crazy stuff, because we will be providing you with some new content for the next upcoming weeks!
Today we're checking out Tanoshii osushiya-san set. There is no English instruction on the box, but Japanese people are crazy about picture FAQs... and it's our chance to get this right. Let's try this thing out!

As you can see in the picture above, the packaging is extremely kawaii. It's happy, colorful and as cute as it can be. On the front side of the box you can see what types of sushi you can make: tamago (with egg omelette), maguro (with tuna), ikura (salmon roe) and with mixed things altogether.

On the back of the box you can see a long, complicated and well-pictured set of instructions. Let's hope it turns out well, because not all the kanji are accompanied by the furigana so we might have a big problem reading this. Fortunately, Japanese people love picturesque instructions. :3

Inside the box there's a kawaii packaging whose look resembles a table set with various plates on top of which you can later on place your crafted sushi. When you cut both sides off you're presented with six colorful sachets and a well-organized mold in which you will be preparing your sushi components. Looks crazy, doesn't it? With all this also come tools, namely plastic spoon and mini-pipette as well as the material for fake nori leaves (unfortunately a photo of these three things hasn't been taken)

Oh, so you can start your crazy adventure with this sushi set. Follow the instructions carefully, mix each and every respective sachet with a proper amount of water poured into the right mold and voila! You have your components ready, now you can go further!

What caught our attention was the rice and the roe. Rice has a very jelly texture and intense bubble-gum smell. As you can see in the picture below it looks like snow, but when you touch it, it feels like a... snot? Oh my...

The process of making the roe is very funny,  all you have to do is to use the previously mentioned mini-pippete to pick up some of the orange liquid from the right mold and inject it into the prepared solution that's in the other mold. Magically, orange balls appear and bounce off the bottom of the mold. You can see the results in the photo below. Woah, so awesome!

We had a problem with jelly tuna and omelette. These were very fragile and didn't solidify properly... After a few minutes they were still like jam, not like jelly as we were expecting them to be. :( Here you can see the results of our hard work. Amazing, isn't it?

But what about the flavour? Well... it depends on the component. The rice was kinda strange for me, like vapid grape-flavored bubble gum. "Jam" tuna and tamago was good but nothing special at all. But the roe was a masterpiece! Jelly balls which had to be bitten for the fruity flavor to spread in your mouth... yummy!

Using what's in the brown sachet you can make a grape-flavored "soy sauce" and it tastes very good. However, in our case it didn't mix with other components properly so... we just drank it. ^^'

This set gets 8/10 from me. It's fun to make, but when you reach the climax after all these preparations the taste is well... anticlimactic. And this failure with the sauce...

Stay positive and Japan-inspired! See you soon. :3
